Diving Buoyancy Compensators BCD Diving Wings
Diving Wings
The wing is a compact buoyancy compensator that is attached to the shoulders using only straps. The straps are located both in the shoulder area and on the abdomen and in the crotch. The air chambers here are represented by an inflatable bag, which is most often in the form of a circle or oval. The diver therefore regulates his buoyancy only on his back. The advantage is that when the wing is fully inflated, the body is not compressed, as is the case with jackets that surround the chest. The disadvantage is the change in the diver's center of gravity, which must be accustomed to or compensated for by appropriately placed weights on the equipment or body.
The components of the wings can be purchased separately, so replacing them is easier than with the jackets. Thanks to the interchangeability of various components, the lifespan of the wing is practically unlimited.
What is very similar on the wings and jackets are the inflators with a corrugated hose and a pressure relief valve. Knives, flashlights, pockets for additional equipment or weight pockets can be hung on the straps. For more sensitive individuals, the straps can also be equipped with padded shoulder pads.
The wing has a crotch strap, which significantly helps stabilize the diver's entire equipment and can also be used, for example, to attach an underwater scooter.
The wing harness very often has a metal back plate, which can also be equipped with padding for more comfortable wearing.
Some properly sized wings have a smaller volume than jackets. This helps to maintain the diver's horizontal position, while at the same time making the wings more sensitive to the optimal amount of weight. In this case, it is advisable to purchase pocket weight belts that you fill with lead.
You can choose from popular brands such as Aqualung and Tecline.
