How to combat diving mask fogging?

12. 6. 2023

Do you have a diving mask that keeps fogging up? We will advise you what to do with it. It is completely normal for new and older masks to fog up, with new masks this is caused by an oily film on the glass, which has been there since production, and in used masks fogging occurs, for example, due to the use of sun creams or improper handling of the mask.

SPRING WATER

In the first step, it is important to properly degrease the mask. All you need is ordinary dishwashing detergent and water. Soak the mask in spring water and leave it on for a few minutes, ideally overnight.

ANTI-FOG PREPARATION

The best and most convenient method is to treat the mask with a special anti-fog product. You simply spray this ANTIFOG SPRAY on the inner glass and then rinse. That is all! There is no risk of damage with this method and therefore we recommend it to all ten. A new mask, which is not equipped with anti-fog from the factory, we recommend a combination of soaking in spring water overnight and then continuously treating it with an anti-fog spray.

SPIT

Another method used is saliva. Yes, you read that right. This technique of own saliva is very well known among divers, but it is not pleasant for everyone ?. If you don't have any degreaser, you can spit, smear and rinse on the inner glass as an emergency.

FIRE

Another option is to tan the glasses with a lighter. Again, this is a rather risky method. First of all, you need to have a really high-quality diving mask that is made of glass, not plastic lenses (which you would obviously destroy). You must also be careful not to tan the silicone part of the mask at the same time.

TOOTHPASTE

You may have heard of degreasing with toothpaste, which is applied to the inner glass of the diving mask before diving and thoroughly rinsed before the dive. We do NOT recommend this solution, because nothing can be worse if, for example, the paste dries up on your glass. In addition, some pastes contain small polishing particles that can scratch and irreversibly destroy the mask.
